The Founders

Salita Mitchell Co-Founder

Salita Mitchell

Salita Mitchell has been a young entrepreneur since the ripe age of two.  With her curious and calm nature she was always interested in ways to make money, how to start a business, and even asking “ What is a credit score” to her father after overhearing a conversation at a car dealership. According to Salita’s parents, at the age of two she had memorized her mother's complete telemarketer sales pitch script with character and pizzaz. She has always been talkative and friendly with a deep passion for serving others.

Salita was born into the “Family Hustle” of marketing, sales, and computer technology and developed a strong work ethic early on. By the age of 10, her parents had worked for the US Navy, State Farm Insurance, Farmers, Cathloic Charities, Oracle, Peoplesoft, and Pacific Bell, just to name a few. Eager to follow in their footsteps, she found ways to earn money by babysitting, doing hair, crocheting blankets and scarves, and even making customized lanyard keychains!

Salita scored her first official job in 10th Grade while attending Berkeley High School. She worked as a Tobacco Prevention Intern with the City of Berkeley Health and Human Services Department. Here she gained comprehensive skills in public speaking, organizing, and project management. Salita spoke at board meetings regarding local ordinances and coordinated cessation classes and peer education presentations.  After graduation in 2005, Salita continued to intern with the City of Berkeley  until 2009. She returned home from college over the summer to train and mentor current high school students.

Salita was a young business woman and could be described as a “hustler”. She relied heavily on her BHS planner to help manage school work and working several part-time jobs.  In addition to her internship with the City of Berkeley she also worked at Jamba Juice and babysat for several families in Berkeley and Oakland. She was a faithful member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, a member of Youth and Government, and Y-Scholars. Through working and participating in several extra curricular Salita understood the importance of being detail oriented, multi-tasking, and time management.

Salita received the prestigious Outstanding Berkeley Woman Award presented by the Commision on the Status of Women. She was also recognized by the California Legislature Assemblywoman Loni Handcock of the 14th District, and received a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from Congress Member Barabra Lee for her service and commitment to improving the community.

In 2005, Salita moved to Los Angeles California to pursue higher education at Loyola Marymount University. She majored in Business Administration with an emphasis in Business Law.  She continued  to gain career experiences and had 3 part time jobs. She worked as a beauty advisor selling cosmetic a Macys at Foxhills mall. She provided academic tutoring with the Academic Advantage and also worked as an Administrative Assistant for the African American Studies department at LMU.

Shantel Mitchell Co-Founder

Shantel Mitchell

One word often used to describe Shantel Mitchell is ambitious. From a young age, she demonstrated a strong work ethic, determination, and a commitment to personal growth that continues to shape her career today.

Shantel began working at just 14 years old, babysitting for families throughout the Bay Area. By 15, after receiving her student work permit, she entered the traditional workforce as a Tobacco Prevention Intern for the City of Berkeley Health and Human Services Department, working alongside her older sister. At 16, she added a second position as a cashier at Target.

These early experiences helped Shantel develop foundational skills such as integrity, accountability, time management, money management, multitasking, and strong interpersonal communication. While balancing multiple jobs, she maintained a solid academic commitment at Berkeley High School, working to support basic needs and to fund her college application process. Her discipline paid off when she earned scholarships from both the Y-Scholars Program and the Good Tidings Foundation, allowing her to attend California State University, Los Angeles.

During college, Shantel continued advancing professionally. She transferred to a Target store in Los Angeles, where she was promoted to Guest Service Team Leader, marking her first step into management. She also gained experience at Abercrombie & Fitch as a Sales Associate/Model. Throughout this period, she expanded her professional skill set—leadership, training, adaptability, organization, and relationship-building. In 2012, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management.

Since graduating, Shantel has built a career rooted in service, leadership, and community impact. She has worked across several industries including Retail, Health Care, and Construction. With over 10 years of Human Resources and management experience, she now serves as a Senior Academic Personnel Analyst at the University of California, Berkeley, where she has worked for over five years.

As her professional experience has deepened, so has her commitment to community empowerment. Shantel understands how challenging it can be to navigate career pathways in an evolving economy especially in the Bay Area. Inspired by her own journey, she co-founded S. Mitchell Career Development Services to help others access the tools, confidence, and guidance needed to reach their goals.

Shantel is passionate about bridging opportunity gaps and supporting individuals who are striving to grow, pivot, or step into their next chapter. While she continues her own journey of learning and evolution, she is equally dedicated to helping others become “Goal Getters” equipped, confident, and prepared to pursue the life and career they envision.

Together, with the right support and determination, we can all achieve our dreams.
